The short version: this website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Finer Screenshot has no account, sends nothing anywhere, and keeps your screenshots on your Mac. The rest of this page says the same thing in the detail the GDPR asks for.

Who is responsible

The controller is Finer Things Software Oy, registered in Siuntio, Finland (Business ID 3635360-9; registered address on file in the Finnish Trade Register). For anything about your personal data, write to privacy@finerthings.software.

This website

What is processed. When you load a page, the request passes through Cloudflare, which fronts our server from the data centre nearest to you, and then reaches our own web server. Cloudflare sees your IP address and the request. Our server’s access log records the request line, the time, the response code, and your browser’s identification string. Because every request arrives through Cloudflare, the server records Cloudflare’s address, not yours.

Why, and on what basis. To deliver the pages and to keep the site secure and working (legitimate interest, GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).

How long. Our access logs are kept for 14 days and then deleted. Cloudflare’s retention is governed by its own policy.

Cookies and tracking. None. No analytics script, no pixels, no fingerprinting, nothing stored in your browser. If we add privacy-preserving, cookieless analytics later, this page will say so first.

E-mail

If you write to us, your e-mail address and what you wrote are kept for as long as the conversation needs, then deleted — normally within a year of the last message. Mail to our addresses is delivered by Cloudflare Email Routing to a mailbox we control. Basis: answering you (legitimate interest, art. 6(1)(f); a contract, art. 6(1)(b), if you are a customer). When we move our mailboxes to another provider, that provider is added to the table below first.

Finer Screenshot, the app

Screen Recording. The app asks macOS for the Screen Recording permission. That is the permission macOS requires to read the pixels on your screen, and it is the only one the app needs. The app reads the screen only when you take a capture — a key press, a menu click — and never in the background.

Where your captures go. A capture is processed on your Mac and written only where you save or copy it. For crash recovery the app also keeps the last ten captures (the image and your annotations) in ~/Library/Application Support/dev.finer.screenshot/ on your Mac; older ones are deleted as new ones arrive, and you can delete the folder yourself at any time.

What leaves your Mac. Nothing. The current version has no network code: no account, no cloud, no telemetry, no crash reporting. There is no “send anonymous usage data” switch because there is nothing that sends. Choosing Buy opens this website in your browser; that visit is covered above.

When that changes. Before a version that checks for updates or activates a licence key over the network ships, this section will describe exactly what those requests contain. A Mac App Store version would talk to Apple for purchases; this page will be updated before one is released.

Your rights
