Press
⌘⇧2 for an area, ⌃⇧2 for a window. The screen freezes under a crosshair in about 200 ms.
Draw
Arrow, text, redact. Letter keys switch tools, and everything snaps.
Paste or Save
⌘C and it's on your clipboard at Retina quality. ⌘S to save to file.
Capture
On screen in about 200 ms
Press Command-Shift-2 (⌘⇧2) and the screen freezes under a crosshair and a loupe. No waiting, no window to find, no helper process. The thought you wanted to capture is still on screen when the viewfinder gets there.
- Measured 140–220 ms from the key press to the overlay on screen, on an M‑series Mac.
- Control-Shift-2 (⌃⇧2) tiles every window on every display, Exposé-style. Pick one and get it clean and unobstructed at full resolution, even if it was buried.
- Nothing running that isn't the app: no helper process, no updater daemon.
Annotate
Arrows that look right the first time
Seven tools: text, arrow, line, pen, rectangle, ellipse and redact. Arrows are one piece, shaft and head together with one shadow, so they look drawn, not assembled. Text is real text, with emoji and input methods working inline.
- Redact pixelates or blurs, and the pixels underneath are gone from the exported file, not hidden under a layer. Redacting twice coarsens the mosaic instead of pretending.
- Snap to angle, snap to edges, 256 steps of undo.
- Letter keys select tools, like the tools you already know.

Export
Out at 2×, wherever you want it
⌘C puts a flattened PNG on the clipboard, ready to paste into Slack or a doc. ⌘S writes PNG, JPEG or WebP at Retina resolution.
- The canvas grows to fit annotations that run past the edge.
- Pick a folder once and skip the save panel, if that's how you work.
- The last ten captures are autosaved for crash recovery, so a wrong click doesn't cost you the shot.
Permissions
No permission theatre
One Screen Recording grant, explained before macOS asks. It's the only permission the app needs.
- Global shortcuts work without the Accessibility permission.
- If a shortcut doesn't fire, the app tests it, names the app that already owns it when macOS can say, and lets you record another one.
- Capture Area and Capture Window are always one click away in the menu bar, shortcut or no shortcut.

Trial
A trial that behaves
14 days, everything unlocked, no card, no account.
- While it runs: one dismissible strip in the editor and a day count in the menu. That's all.
- Day 15: capture stops until you buy. The editor keeps working, so nothing on screen is held hostage.
- Never a watermark, in the trial or after it.

Questions people ask first
I used Skitch until it stopped being looked after. Is this for me?
That's the job this is built for: press a key, draw an arrow, add a word or two, paste. No account, no cloud, and no nag between you and the arrow.
Shottr is free and fast. Why pay 19 €?
For what happens after the capture. The editor draws arrows and text that look right the first time, redacts properly, and exports at Retina resolution — with no account, no telemetry and nothing running in the background. You get 14 days with everything unlocked to decide whether that's worth 19 € to you.
Does it do scrolling capture?
Not in this version. When it does, it will be because it works properly — a scrolling capture that half-works is worse than none.
Is there a library of past captures?
Not a browsable one. The last ten captures are kept for crash recovery, and everything you save is an ordinary file in the folder you chose.
Can it pin a screenshot on top of other windows?
Not in this version.
Does it need an account, or an internet connection?
No. There is no account, no sign-in, and no network code in the app. Buying goes through the App Store like any other purchase.
What if an update breaks something?
E-mail support and a person answers. No update will ever move you to a subscription or take away something you paid for.
Can I buy it without the App Store?
Soon. Buying directly from this site is coming. The Mac App Store is first.
Is there a Windows version?
Not yet. One is in development from the same core and will be sold here; the Mac version ships first.
